Pastoral Workshop Series #5:
Healthy Helpers

Wednesday May 27, 2015
9:00 AM – 2:00 PM

One of the challenges faced by pastors and other care-givers is how to stay healthy in the process of caring for others. Burn-out, stress, depression and physical sickness are common among those who are investing themselves in the lives of those they are seeking to help. For some, this problem could be identified with the symptoms of Co-Dependency, which occurs when the care-giver is dependent on the needs of others in order to feel a sense of fulfillment in their own lives. We often see this at Sundown as we work with family members and loved ones of alcoholics and addicts, but it can also occur in other situations when people are caring for those with long-term, chronic physical and emotional illnesses.

Pastors, counselors and other care-givers are not immune from becoming enmeshed and sick themselves if they don’t learn how to identify the signs and symptoms, and are able to address this important self-care issue. Our hope for this workshop is to help pastors and other church care-givers to be more aware of this problem, and be better prepared to address these issues in a way that is helpful to those involved, find meaningful support and move them in the direction of recovery.

Sundown M Ranch will be providing this as the fifth in an on-going series of workshops designed to help support and train those in pastoral ministry in our communities. I will be facilitating this workshop with Mike Burke, Director of the Family Counseling program at Sundown, along with other members of our staff. Please accept our invitation to attend this free workshop on Wednesday May 27th from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Lunch will be provided at no cost, but please pre-register by May 22nd.

We look forward to seeing you at the Ranch,

Rev. Bill Starr, D.Min, MAC, CDP
